The Associate in General Education curriculum is designed for the academic enrichment of students who wish to broaden their education with emphasis on personal interest, growth, and development.
The Associate in General Education (AGE) degree shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 64-65 semester hours of college transfer courses. Course work includes study in the areas of humanities and fine arts, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, and English composition. The degree program also includes opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and the basic use of computers.
Through these skills, students will have a sound base for lifelong learning. Graduates are prepared for advancements within their field of interest and become better qualified for a wide range of employment opportunities.
Students should speak with their academic advisor before or during their first semester at MCC. The academic advisor will assist in mapping out the coursework to fit the specific requirements of the Associate in General Education degree. Click to view the Associate in General Education outline.
Community college graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to successfully complete the Associate in General Education degree requirements.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Students who successfully complete 12 semester hours of associate degree coursework with a Grade Point Average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and adhere to the school conduct code and possess recognized qualities of citizenship, will be invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society. Membership is voluntary and open to all curriculum students meeting minimum eligibility. The society provides opportunities for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.
