Student Rights
- Students have the right to know what types of financial aid are available to them at MCC
- Students have the right to know how financial aid is distributed, how decisions on distribution are made, and the basis for these decisions
- Students have the right to know how their financial need is determined
- Students have the right to know the deadlines for submitting financial aid documents
- Students have the right to know how much of their financial need has been met
- Students have the right to know MCC’s refund policy
- Students have the right to know how the Financial Aid Office determines whether or not a student is making Satisfactory Academic Progress
Student Responsibilities
- Students must submit all applications accurately and promptly
- Students must provide correct information. Errors may result in delays in receiving financial assistance. If a student gets federal student aid based on incorrect information, the student must pay it back. The student may also have to pay fines and fees. If a student purposely gives false or misleading information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the student may be fined $20,000, sent to prison, or both
- Students must submit all documentation, verification, and corrected information requested by the Financial Aid Office within an appropriate amount of time
- It is the student’s responsibility to read and understand all documents that he/she signs and to keep a copy of these documents
- Students who create Pell or FSEOG overpayments due to withdrawal from Montgomery Community College will not be allowed to receive Pell or any other type of institutionally awarded financial aid until the overpayment has been paid in full
- It is the student’s responsibility to complete a new financial aid application each year
- Satisfactory academic progress must be maintained by the student in order to receive financial assistance
- Students must adhere to the deadlines set by the Financial Aid Office. Failure to do so will result in the delay of financial aid awards
- Students agree that by accepting the financial aid award offered on their MCC offer letter that they have read and understood the MCC Conditions of Financial Aid including the voluntary authorization of aid.
- The student must report for assigned Federal Work-Study jobs on time and put forth every effort to perform the job to the best of his/her ability
- The student must notify the Financial Aid Office of any change in credit hours or if the student withdraws from school
- The student must notify the Financial Aid Office of all post-secondary schools previously attended and request an academic transcript to be sent to MCC from the school(s) previously attended
