Thank you for choosing Montgomery Community College. Our goal is to make your admission process simple and seamless. For the best possible results, we recommend completing these admission procedures at least four weeks prior to enrolling in classes.
An applicant applying fewer than four weeks prior to enrollment may be notified to follow admission procedures as a walk-in student during our open registration period.
Let’s get started!

Complete an Application for Admission

Upon completion, you will receive your Residency Certification Number (RCN), which must be provided on the application prior to submission. If you do not have Internet access, please visit Student Services. Click the link below to begin the two-part application process.
Your Student ID and Online Accounts
Once your Application for Admission is received at MCC, you are assigned a Student ID number which will be used for your online accounts. Your ID number will be mailed to you with your first correspondence from MCC.
After receiving your Student ID, you are encouraged to activate your student account through MCCTechTrail. Future correspondence will be sent to your TrailMail address (student email) and updates concerning your admission and financial aid will be available through your Self Service account. Students should check these important accounts frequently.
Submit Official Transcripts
Request your official high school (or equivalent) transcript and official transcripts from all other colleges attended to be sent to the following:
Montgomery Community College

MCC accepts any high school which is accredited/recognized by local and state regulatory authorities as being a legitimate high school or alternative school. Students who attended a school not meeting this criteria may be asked to provide additional information to clarify validity of the high school. Students who graduated from an invalid high school will have to show another form of high school equivalency in order to pursue an academic program of study. Students who wish to appeal the Records Office’s determination may use the Student Appeal Process.
Students will be granted provisional acceptance to college until all transcripts have reached the Admissions Office. Students will not be placed into any required English or math courses until all transcripts have been processed.
Apply for Financial Aid
If you wish to apply for financial aid, please visit MCC’s financial aid page for a step-by-step guide to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). After submitting your FAFSA, you should begin checking your Self Service account regularly for any required documents to complete your financial aid file.

Academic Placement
Based on the new Reinforced Instruction for Student Excellence (RISE) developmental model, students must submit all high school and college transcripts prior to determining course placement or possible placement testing. Students will be granted provisional acceptance to college until all transcripts have reached the Admissions Office. Students will not be placed into any required English or math courses until all transcripts have been processed.
Students who graduated from high school more than 10 years ago and/or do not have an unweighted GPA may be required to take an assessment. Each student’s record will be reviewed and students will be placed using the model that best serves the student’s success.
Current, returning, and new students who have graduated within the last 10 years and do not have college credits, ACT or SAT scores, will be placed into Gateway English or math courses by unweighted high school GPA into one of three categories:
- Students with a GPA 2.8+ may register for any English or math course.
- Students with a GPA 2.2-2.799 may enroll in a gateway course with a mandatory co-requisite.
- Students with a GPA < 2.2 must enroll in a one-semester transition course.
For more information about RISE and placement visit Academic Placement..
Advising and Registration
When the registration period opens, students are required to contact their advisor to schedule an advising and registration appointment to discuss their academic plan and review course offerings. Advising is available to students by scheduling a meeting, emailing or calling their assigned program advisor – your advisor’s name will be included in your acceptance letter.
Tuition Payment and Options
After registering for courses, payment for tuition will be due by designated due dates. Registration is not complete until payment has been made.
Tuition payment options:
Pay online through your Self Service account.
Contact our Business Office to pay with cash, check or credit card.
Set up a Nelnet payment plan. (The payment plan is only available during advertised dates.)
Financial Aid (Applicants pursuing financial aid assistance should apply early and check student email and Self Service accounts frequently for notifications and status updates.)
Limited Enrollment and Wait List
Please be aware that some of our programs have limited enrollment. When a program reaches its enrollment limit, the applicant will be notified by the Enrollment Office regarding wait list eligibility and any additional requirements that must be met before being placed on a wait list. (In many cases, this is a multiple-step process as applicants may have one or more additional requirements that must be met prior to being placed on a wait list.)
When any prerequisite requirement has been met, including remedial work as indicated by the NC DAP Accuplacer test, the applicant notifies the Enrollment Office. At that time, the applicant’s record is re-assessed and the applicant will be notified concerning wait list status or additional requirements.
Limited Enrollment and Wait List
Individual degree, diploma, and certificate programs may have additional requirements. Please see below or consult the MCC Catalog for more information.
